What do we do with Ford, GM and Chrysler?

What the H3LL do we do!!!!!!!!

It’s like this . . . Ask the questions:

How many millions did the executives make over the past 10 years?
Are those people still making millions now as they’re asking for corporate bail money?

If the answers to these questions are:

1,000 million, and
Yes

Then you’ve got serious problems. In all actuality, we already know the answer to these questions. Here’s the problem:

Jobs!

As much as you’re unhappy about the first two answers to the first two questions, you have to realize just how unhappy you’re going to be if these companies completely collapse and thousands lose their jobs. It just sucks.

The purpose of companies are multitudinous. Some say that companies exist to enrich shareholders. Some say that companies exist to make products and provide services. Few say that companies exist to either enrich shareholders or make products and provide services FOREVER! That’s the key.

We must realize that a company is nothing more than what the people that own it think it should be . . . Some companies exist under the same organizational paradigm as they did when they were founded 50, 100 or even 150 years ago. That doesn’t mean that all those years become meaningless as soon as the people running the company decide to no longer follow whatever rules they were following before.

Now, MoneyKing understands that these companies use tactics like advertising that they have been in business for a zillion years and that means they’ll never change and that you can trust them, but . . . you know who to trust. Trust TheMoneyKings.com when we say that none of that BS means squat as soon as the board of whatever company is in question decides to simply change their minds for their own self-interests.

It’s their perrogative.

What about the social contract, MoneyKing?” Great question. What about the social contract?

Maybe it’s time for this country to think about that; maybe it’s time for us to think about our society and our companies and just what we’re trying to accomplish now in the 21 Century.

You see, it’s not about the damn cars. It’s about us. What do we do about the cars? What do we do about us?

Here’s some recommendations:

Bail out 2 out of the 3 automakers to keep as many jobs as possible, but realize you’re going to lose about 35% of them right out the gate.
Force the automakers to eliminate 80% of the lines that no one wants to buy anymore.
Require them to focus on 3 lines of hybrid vehicles for consumers under the philosophy that the majority of Americans don’t need to transport themselves with fossil fuels.
Offer the vehicles to the masses.

Just some recommendations . . . You got any better ideas?

New site layout for The Money Kings!

Welcome to the new site layout for The Money Kings! We have spent many hours improving our site by converting over to the popular Wordpress platform and changing our layout to look more like a magazine. Many thanks to the Wordpress group for an awesome piece of software, and to Michael Oeser for the extremely well thought out Branford Magazine theme which we are using.

Other improvements you should notice are an easier to read layout, a better design of homepage to show off several topics for your viewing pleasure, and less obnoxious ads.

The Money Kings are looking for guest posters and authors!

Soon we’ll be inviting members of the general public to become Money Kings and post articles on this site! We’re still working out the kinks in how this will work, but the general idea is that you’ll be able to register for an account here, and submit articles to be displayed on our site. What are the benefits of doing this? Well, first off you can embed a link or two back to your blog within your post thus possibly increasing the page rank of your site. Additionally, if you own a business or are selling a product, you can plug your services or products within your post. Our only constraints on the posts are that they be well thought out, contain meaningful content that add value to The Money Kings site, are written in English, and follow our editorial guidelines which are currently being developed.

You work hard on your rental units trying to make the efficient, clean and orderly. You spend hard-earned time and money to get your property business running in tip top shape.

Then the inevitable happens:

What’s that MoneyKing?

Your tenants decide to “enhance” your property with comforts that you simply forgot to provide them with!

Here’s a list:

Your tenant,

Would like an extra door added to the back of your house, so he put one in!
Didn’t like the way the oak tree in the front of your unit shaded the driveway, so she took it out.
Decided that he could live without the comforts of an AC unit, so he removed it and sold it for scrap.
Has two cats and install cat doors on every door in your unit—including the exterior entries.
Wanted a fencing in yard, so he hired his brother Julio Del Foolio to put one in. Julio doesn’t own a level, though.
Thought the unit would look better painted bright purple.
Wanted a satellite dish installed, so attached one himself to your room and now it leaks.
Wanted a three car garage, so built an extra set of walls, roof and garage door out of materials from an abandoned construction site down the street.
Needed to burn leaves, so decided to build a burn pit—in your unit’s front yard.
Saw a great money making idea about raising rabbits for meat (probably on TheMoneyKings.com), so she built 3 dozen pens in your back yard.

This list can go on forever. The lesson to learn here is to not only forbid tenant modifications to your units before renting, but to put this rule in your lease and to assert yourself with your tenant upfront that modifications will not be tolerated!

You could wind up with tickets from code violators, problems with neighbors, tax assessor and countless other demons, if you’re not diligent in this regard.

Credit Cards Are Not a Bad Idea

Everyone’s talking about the the availability of credit these days. Heck, one of MoneyKing’s buddies, MoneyBuddy, tried to buy a Toyota Prius last week and the dealer say, “No Cash. No Deal.” MoneyBuddy couldn’t get a loan—and he has a 780 FICO!

What Are You Talking About Now, MoneyKing?

MoneyKing isn’t in financial trouble, of course, he’s the MoneyKing. But, you’ve heard MoneyKing say this before: You gotta use credit cards.

Why MoneyKing?!!

For the perks! That’s why!

What MoneyKing doesn’t like are people with only one credit card, or no credit cards at all saying things like, “I don’t need to worry about borrowing money or credit cares, because I don’t buy things I can’t afford! I’m not stupid. My daddy taught me that if I can’t afford something, I don’t try to buy it.”

Leverage is part of capitalism. It makes financial sense to borrow and pay back, if there’s a financial and/or material incentive for the borrower and the lender. This is a common MoneyKing retort to aforementioned boneheads.

Social Security Payments Increase 5.8%

Okay. You tell us . . .

How EXACTLY does all this make any sense?

Today we’re hearing about how Social Security payments are going to increase 5.8% to beneficiaries. An increase of 5.8%?????!?!!?!?
Mind you, MoneyKing, isn’t upset about the increase as much as he’s upset about the following:

The media, for at least 10 years (Search the web for “the end of social security; check the dates) has been telling us that we’re going to run out of money for Social Security.
We KNOW that the National Debt is larger than it’s ever been.
Various political candidates tell us SS is going to go bankrupt.

Yet, now payouts are going up 5.8%. Where’s the money coming from? Better yet,

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES THE TREASURY HAVE?

MoneyKing doesn’t recall ever being told what most every CEO on earth needs to hear each day, namely, “How much are we worth today?”

MoneyKing likes Social Security for one reason: Few people are born with the talent to successfully manage their money. If this weren’t the case, then why have TheMoneyKings.com!?

We educate those with talent. Those with no talent can read our posts or listen to us talk forever; they’ll never get anywhere. That’s just how life is.

Key Take-Aways and Analysis:

Social Security is partially like the criminal justice system–It’s designed to keep people under control under the auspices of helping them out. Ne’re-do-wells benefit from SS. This in turn keeps them from burglarizing everything they see.
Social Security is an acknowledgement by an advanced society that some people just come up on the short end of the stick—It’s designed to provide base-level funds to assist those that want to contribute. Disabled individuals have the option of receiving funding that will allow them opportunities that their disabilities otherwise will not allow.
Socially Security honors the elderly—It’s designed to provide for those that more-than-likely have provided for younger generations. Older citizens get help for all the years they worked and contributed to the advancement of the nation.

Seems simple, huh?

But again, how can we supposedly need to get rid of this services, or raise taxes for it, or change it, blah, blah, blah for years and years in the major news outlets, and then all of a sudden payouts increase by 5.8% with no prior reports or discussion?

How does this make sense?

Banking Ads Are Getting On MoneyKing’s Nerves

This morning MoneyKing heard yet another annoying CD commercial from some bank. The bank in question here is Fifth Third.

Let MoneyKing break this down for you:

The ad begins with someone talking about how he’s finally found what he wants to do with his retirement.
Then the guy explains that he knows what kind of money he needs in the future to accomplish his goals, but doesn’t know what to do with the cash NOW as he’s only 5 years from retirement.
The guy explains that Fifth Third really helped him with his goals (banks are always trying to preach to us about goals, of course) by giving him a CD with a great interest rate.

Wow. That’s so awesome.

After MoneyKing got his socks rocked off by this most stupendous tale of goals and planning, MoneyKing heard the voice of the “general announcer dude” supposedly from Fifth Third telling him that Fifth Third is the cat’s meow and so wonderful, blah, blah, blah.

At the end of the ad, “general announcer dude” gave the coup de grâce. He said that what was even better about getting a CD from Fifth Third is that that bank had over 150 years of experience behind it to [insert general affirmative and reassuring phrase here for ordinary folks shakin’ in their boots right now about the banking system].

MoneyKing thought to himself, “Hmmmmmm. Where has MoneyKing heard this ‘150 years’ sh(t before????”

Then MoneyKing remembered! Lehman Brothers, that’s where! So MoneyKing thought, “Fifth Third is trying to add creditability to its argument that people should buy CDs from its bank, because it’s like Lehman Brothers with its 150 years of experience!”

Wait!!!

Maybe MoneyKing’s confused . . . Lehman’s done, and their 150 years of experience matters not at this point. Maybe Fifth Third should put the “age implies wisdom” tactics to rest as well.

Paper Boys and Paper Men (and Women!)

It’s the little things, you know? The little things just draining money out of your pocket each day.

Take this as an example.

MoneyKing is out doing his money thing. He sees two people in a huge cargo van throwing papers from either side of the vehicle into people’s yards.

Then the idea hits MoneyKing:

How EXACTLY does all this make any sense?

For a while there, MoneyKing was thinking about WHY this didn’t make sense to him, but in general, the idea of HOW it made sense to the dopes actually participating in the aforementioned activity was more compelling.

In MoneyKingland, there are no paper “boys.” Repeat: There are NO paper “boys.” So, that idea that hiring young kids to walk around and deliver papers for minimum wage vs. watching them sit and stare at the tube all day is over.
Paper “boys” have been replaced with grown a$$ men and women driving around very slowly in seemingly whatever vehicle they can find to deliver the same papers as said paper “boys” of olden-times.
Paper men and women are paid around $9.50 per hour for their work.
It is FASTER to deliver papers by car vs. by foot.
It is TRUE however that gasoline costs about $4 per gallon.

So, again, MoneyKing thinks to himself:

How EXACTLY does all this make any sense?

If you’re paid $9.50 per hour and you take out taxes and then pay for the gas for your huge cargo van getting 9 miles to the gallon, how much money per hour are you really making? $2? $1.79?

Sure. If you’re desperate for a job, you’ll work for $2. Sure. If you really live to deliver papers (which some people do), then you’ll do it for nothing. Honestly, though, (speaking to the people in the cargo van) do you think you could sell that van to a contractor and buy yourself a nice, old Toyota Camry 4-cylinder?

You gotta do better . . . as they say. We know The Money Kings readers are doing better, don’t we?

We know The Money Kings readers making 40-mile one way commutes to work aren’t doing it in empty Lexus LX470 SUVs, right? Even, if you’re a billionaire, Edmunds (These guys are Money Kings!) doesn’t recommend paying the exorbitant price for this vehicle.
